One of these things just doesn’t belong.’ And that’s you, Clay. But you need to be here if I’m going to tell my story. To tell it more completely.

If you've read the book you'll probably remember this quote. It's from Hannah, explaining why Clay is on the list. You may have your own interpretation of this quote and a different opinion why Clay received the tapes. And that is what this post will be about. But first a big warm hello and welcome back on my blog👋 As I mentioned above, in this post we'll discuss the reason of Clay receiving the tapes. I'll present you my opinion to this topic, but of course you're allowed to share your thoughts in the comments. Let's get started❗

While reading the quote I'm thinking Hannah didn't put Clay on the list because he's one of the thirteen reasons why she ended her life. She even says: "You don't belong in the same way as the others." I mean, she loves him and Clay didn't hurt her (mentally and physically) like Justin, for example. But as Hannnah says: "To tell it more completely." he plays an important part in her story. It's one of the last moments where Hannah could have opened up to somebody and might not have killed herself. In addition to this, while Clay and Hannah were kissing it all came up in Hannah, all the bad memorys and moments. I also think, although it isn't written in the quote, that Hannah thought Clay deserves to know why she commited suicide and what really happened at the party.
